Disaster Recovery Support

The Cordillera region is geographically a typhoon-prone area. The region experienced extensive damage during Typhoon Pepeng in 2009 and Typhoon Juan in 2010. Damages include the washing away of vegetable fields, closure of roads, and destruction of houses in the community. Typhoon disaster damage is exacerbated by deforestation, which leads to landslides and soil erosion.

In 2009, Typhoon Pepeng left nearly 500 people dead or missing. In 2010, after Typhoon Juan, CGN provided agricultural materials for the rehabilitation of the affected areas in Benguet Province through the Grassroots Grant Aid from the Embassy of Japan.
