Program Components

The activities of CGN have the following six components.

1.   Environmental Advocacy

CGS promotes citizens’ knowledge, attitudes, skills and active participation towards the protection and preservation of the environment through print and electronic media, seminars/workshops, symposia, visual and performing arts, and other related activities. CGN recognizes that its vision can only be achieved through an informed and educated citizenry, making environmental education an indispensable component in its programs.

2. Sustainable Agriculture

CGN promotes proper utilization and management of the communities’ agricultural resources to generate more income and alleviate poverty while preserving environment. CGN has conducted workshops/seminars on various appropriate technologies in its partner communities to promote sustainable agriculture.

3.  Community Reforestation

 

CGN promotes agroforesty and forestry nursery establishment and maintenance among the communities in the Cordillera and surrounding regions. In recent years, CGN has been promoting agroforestry coffee production as part of its reforestation projects. Through these projects, CGN aims at improving livelihood of the farmers while enhancing their capacity for sustainable agriculture and forest management.

4.  Renewable Energy

CGN has introduced and installed renewable energy technologies, such as biogas facilities and small-scale hydroelectric power system,  in remote communities in the Cordillera. Such technologies can help minimize their dependence on firewood and prevent further destruction of natural forest.

5. Green Scholarship Initiative

With a help of many generous supporters, CGN has been helping the college/vocational education of selected deserving indigents from its partner communities. In addition to financial assistance, CGN offers various programs to its scholars in order to nurture future leaders for sustainable development of the communities.

CGN documents, gathers, and publishes local information about environment and cultural values and practices that enhance the protection and preservation of nature.
